Water Rats, TDF

So that nice Dan Hetherton invited us to play with TDF, which we did last night :)

Thanks to those who braved the traffic and the heatwave!

Pitchfork & 10 Feet are starting to fit into the set as second nature. Speak Up sounds like an old friend.

EOTS kicked butt, Nobody Knows and TAB rocked it.

Nice warm up gig for tour next month :)

Hoping to see some familiar faces out there…

When everyone is shouting…

I remember July 13th 1985 well. I was stood in the old Wembley Stadium watching just about every artist I had ever wanted to see play live right in front of me. One after the other. Live. In front of me. Queen. Bowie. The Who. Elton. Ultravox. Boomtown Rats…

Live Aid.

That’ll never happen again. Queued all night when the tickets went on sale. One of the greatest days of my life. The gig, not the queuing!

I was about 20 or 30 rows from the front of the stage. Every now and then, the camera would pan around and we’d all think we might be on TV. Oddly, that seemed like a big deal at the time. So we’d all go berserk, jumping up and down, waving our arms about and whooping like deranged baboons.

I’d set the video (Betamax!) at home to capture as much footage as possible, leaving my mother with comprehensive instructions on how to change tapes… and I thought to myself, “I might see myself at this event…”

How to stand out, when everyone was shouting? I stood stock still, on tip toe, hands stretched up as high as I could, head thrown back…

Then watched the footage back, looking for the crowd shot that covered the area I’d been stood in…. and… there I was! The plonker who wasn’t moving.

It had worked. And that clip has been used on the DVD version that was released 20 years later, so I don’t need to rely on the Betamax tape any more!

WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IS ZIGGING, ZAG. I just had to think differently…

GO FRANKO, GO FRANKO!

Rich really does love Incubus. And just look at Chris in the background. Was there something in those cookies, Hatty?

21st May - the beginnings of a story

FranKo rehearsed yesterday, getting ready for June.

Every story has a beginning, a middle and an end. The good ones do, anyway.

So have a good story, and tell it well. Plan, work out when to reveal what, decide colour, shape, form. What language are you going to use?

FranKo are hard at it. Ricky is finishing off at his school, then he’ll have more free time. We’re all looking forward to that. The story should come quicker then.

I can’t wait!

15th May

OK, the cat’s out of the bag. A bit.

The newsletter has gone out today admitting that the next few live shows will be the last we do for a bit.

There’s the ones on frankoband.com and Facebook, and that’s about it. Then there’s that one in November with the lovely Dave Giles, which lets everyone know that there are no problems with FranKo.

But it’s all going on.

Really.

I just heard a new song…

… a new FranKo song.

100 mph, and all the better for it. Unlike anything they have ever done before.

And clocking in at just 88 seconds, it is strangely UNDENIABLE.

Succeeding at exceeding.

I had to ring them the second I heard it to tell them that.

Young Musician of the Year

Did you see it? BBC4 7.30pm yesterday…

If not, why not?!

Catch it on i-Player… I’ll post the link in a mo.

Ricky (and his lil’ bro) were amazing, as were Rich and Chris on drums and bass respectively. Tommy & I cheered real loud from the audience.

Very proud of them ALL.
